Beachy Memories – Finished Quilt
Beachy Memories is finished! The binding was giving me all sorts of problems so it took me longer to finish than I anticipated. My lesson learned is to stitch one corner, take it out of the machine & check it before doing the rest. Happy quilting!
Beachy Memories – Quilting, Border, Binding
I had to clear off the design table of ribbon & paper cutting to make room to work on this. The construction had to be a little bit unconventional due to the texture I wanted to add to this quilt. First, I pinned the top to a piece of batting, and did all the quilting:You can see the dimensional texture that this has added to the quilt. I used rayon thread for the quilting using a straight stitch and created movement in the lines. After the quilting, I layered the quilt with the backing fabric, and then stitched on the borders:The borders were challenging because after the top was quilted, it was no longer square, and I couldn’t square it because the borders weren’t attached! It was truly a catch 22, but I managed. Once the borders were attached, I basted the outside edge, then channel quilted parallel lines throughout the border: The effect is really cool – I especially like the clouds. Then I attached the binding, which is the same fabric used in the borders & backing. Now all that’s left is the label & to hand-stitch the binding to the back side to seal it off. Happy quilting!
Beachy Memories – Border Chosen
Client has chosen to go with the blue print border. I think that was an excellent choice! Happy quilting!
Beachy Memories – Border Selection
Time to choose a border! Here are some options: Personally, I like the printed borders better than the solids; and the blue & brown (first row.) Happy quilting!
Beachy Memories – Piecing
I got quite a bit of this done; I’m going to stop at the top here so my client can choose the borders for the quilt. The top measures 17″ x 21″ so far; once the borders are added it will be a respectable 24″x30″. I haven’t done the quilting on this yet, but I may yet get to it today. Here’s the top half, all pieced: Here is the bottom half, pinned & ready to go: Here is the finished scene, ready for borders: Happy quilting!
Beachy Memories – Cutting & Layout
I started working on the cutting & layout for this quilt this morning. So far I like how it has turned out but I will probably make adjustments after I start pressing the edges & sewing down the strips: Happy quilting!
Beachy Memories – Fabric Selection
Today I presented the client with an assortment of pinks & blues as requested. The fabrics are in order (approximately) to how they will appear in the landscape – from the blue of the sky & water, to the brown, pink, and tan of the beach sands. The client will choose a complementary border fabric once the central motif has been quilted. Happy quilting!
Beachy Memories – First Project Meeting
