Lee Family Tree – Finishing
In the home stretch! The pictures have been attached with a very narrow zig zag stitch in a monofilament thread. In the center of the trunk I have embroidered “The Lee Family”. This embroidery was done actually free hand with a satin stitch machine, not with an embroidery machine, so it’s a fascinating treatment. It’s not the best but it’s a pretty cool use of the tools I had on hand I must say. Here is how the grandparents worked out in the corner peering out of the sun:
Lee Family Tree – Quilting
The tree has been shortened and the sun has been attached. I’ve also quilted the sun’s rays in variegated thread to give it some sparkle. The leaves have been attached with a decorative stitch to make the vein running down the center of each leaf.
Lee Family Tree – Cutting Layout
There are four layouts for the customer to choose from to include her parents, siblings, and their children. This is an early layout meant to give the customer a good idea of what the project will look like finished. This is an opportunity for the customer to move photos around, play with photo colors, and experiment with different effects. There are a few photos missing; one child is missing, and the customer would like to include a picture of their grandparents as well, looking down from a sun that will be placed in the corner. This will require shortening the tree somewhat to make enough room.
Lee Family Tree – First Project Meeting
Project Description: This wall hanging is a literal interpretation of a “family tree.” It includes photographs printed to specially treated fabric. Finished Size: 24″ x 36″ Fabric Selection: Cream background, brown mottled print for tree, solid green for leaves The client has requested a family tree project and has approved the initial sketch. The sketch was done by hand in my sketchbook – I’d have to reduce it in size to scan it in. Next steps will be for the customer to provide photos and for me to mock up the design in fabric. Happy quilting!
