Just a Little Progress Update…
I’m making pretty good headway on my UFOs this year. April was particularly fantastic, with six project finishes and a couple more well on their way to being finished. I was really proud of my progress this weekend as well (although I must say a lot of other things got neglected in the process…)I’m working on a tutorial for making a quilt based on the Old Maid’s Puzzle block, and using the instructions as an opportunity to show how to cut this using the AccuQuilt machines. I actually have a series of 13 projects in the works, and they are all being published to HandmadeNews.org. I will say that it was rather ambitious of me to start a 13-project series with a gigantic 60″ quilt, so rest assured I won’t be doing *that* again. It’s hard enough to do the Project Quilting challenges in 1 week – but to do that plus a giant 60″ quilt from start to finish? Insane. (And yes, that is a cookie sheet. Please do not ask how it wound up in the studio or why it became a project container… but it worked pretty well!) I did take the opportunity also to intersperse another project in between the OMP blocks. Last year I was supposed to be doing a Quilt Along with nine-patch blocks. I made all the blocks, but didn’t get the quilt made… I broke it into two projects, and neither of them got made. Last week I got one of them completely pieced with the backing & binding prepared, and this week, I had the other of them laid on the cutting table. Because of the specific layout (I told myself) – the only way to move the project was to piece it together! It actually helped to break up the monotony, and I got pretty far on two projects, for which I was very glad. This one is sashed with a dark grey that looks almost black in this photo. The really nice thing about finishing the piecing on this, is to be able to reclaim my cutting table! At the opposite end of the table, you can get a glimpse of the fabric for the backing & binding. Happy quilting!
Quilt Along Progress – All Pieced!
I have finished piecing all 70 9-patches! I finished them a couple of weeks ago actually, but only just now got around to taking photos: These will become two separate projects. The batiks will get an “interesting” sashing – because I don’t really know what yet, and the other scrappy ones I’m hoping to place in green sashing. We’ll see! Happy quilting!
Quilt Along Progress – Week 3
Still happily trucking along! The leader of this quilt along is already up to nearly 40 blocks. I prefer to pace myself. Happy quilting!
Quilt Along Progress – Week 2
Making progress, although taking pictures of these is getting a little monotonous, only because there are only so many 9-patch variations of batik + navy solid. Just so no one thinks I’m taking pictures of the same seven 9-patches, I’ve photographed both the first & second week’s blocks: Happy quilting!
Quilt Along Progress – Week 1
Whoops, I got behind again, but I am caught up. Today I have nine blocks done, which is where I am supposed to be. I think if I make this my morning task when I first wake up, it will be an accomplishment each morning and I’ll be able to keep up. A lot of “ups” today!Happy quilting!
Quilt Along Progress – Week 1
I was supposed to start last Monday on this project, but I ended up not starting until yesterday. So that makes 8 nine patch blocks I am supposed to have finished by tonight. For the first project (since I will probably end up making two quilts in this quilt along) I am using the batiks sent to me by a Quiltsy friend. I didn’t take pictures of all the strips before I started cutting, but here is a picture of some that I am saving for another project: Considering that I am strip piecing (at least for the first project), I can turn out nine patches a lot faster than if I were piecing squares. So what I decided to do is sew all the strips and then subcut the units for the nine patch: So tonight, I will start assembling the nine patches – I will finish 8 tonight, and then I will be caught up with everyone else! Happy quilting!
